Non-Perturbative Aspects of Gauge Theories

Stefan Vandoren - University Utrecht, Utrecht

We discuss various aspects of instanton physics in four-dimensional gauge theories, with and without supersymmetry. It includes the discussion of self dual gauge field strengths, the moduli space of collective coordinates, fermion zero modes and index theorems, one-loop determinants and the path-integral measure in the semi-classical approximation. We then focus on instantons in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, and compute instanton corrections to correlation functions with gauge group SU(N). In the large N-limit we can compare this with the predictions coming from the AdS/CFT correspondence and illustrate how this provides a non-trivial test of the correspondence at the non-perturbative level.
